According to human population census of 2011 the State has a population of about 6,10,577, with the density of 86 persons per sq. km. The total population of the state forms 0.05 percent of the entire population of India. Almost 75% of the population lives in rural areas. Literacy rate in Sikkim is 81.42 percent, with male and female literacy at 77.38 and 59.63 percent respectively.
